Eid Al Etihad is the UAE’s annual national celebration that commemorates the country’s Union in 1971. It’s a chance for everyone who calls the UAE home to spend time together, participate in local celebrations across all emirates, and watch the official ceremony.
The 53rd Eid Al Etihad marked a pivotal transition from its former identity as “Union Day” to a celebration more deeply rooted in heritage and sustainability. For the first time, the ceremony was held in Al Ain’s Jebel Hafeet Park, a location rich in natural beauty and deeply significant in the UAE’s history as the childhood home of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Script & Narrative Development
Rouya worked closely with the creative writers to shape a narrative where nature was not just the setting but the central storyteller. Drawing inspiration from the constellations, winds, and date palms that have guided and sustained the UAE’s journey, the script was crafted to symbolise how the UAE’s nature has played an enduring role in shaping national identity. This marked a bold departure from traditional formats and set the stage for a celebration of unity and sustainability.
Communication Strategy and Rebranding
Rouya led the development of an integrated communications strategy to reinforce the new brand identity of “Eid Al Etihad”. The rebranding efforts standardised the use of “عيد الاتحاد” in Arabic and “Eid Al Etihad” in English, gaining adoption across leading national media such as WAM, Al Etihad, Emarat Al Youm, and Dubai Media. Messaging was aligned across all platforms, from social to print to digital, ensuring thematic consistency and public recognition. A complete media guide was prepared and distributed to key outlets, guiding journalists on sustainable celebration practices and visual alignment.
Media Coverage
The team planned and facilitated comprehensive media coverage by leading proactive collaborations with major media outlets such as WAM and Abu Dhabi TV, offering exclusive interviews and coverage opportunities. This approach underscored the importance of timely announcements and coordinated media engagement to maximise impact and reach.
Rouya managed all press activities across the pre-event, live event, and post-event stages. Five national announcements were strategically released: The launch of the celebrations, the location reveal, the release of the official theme song, the broadcast guide, and the post-event reflections.
This was complemented by 25 in-depth interviews across all emirates, including Abu Dhabi TV, WAM, and Khaleej Times. The highlight was a special one-hour programme aired by Abu Dhabi TV, showcasing behind-the-scenes insights.
Media Briefing
The day before the official ceremony, Rouya organised a media briefing for top-tier journalists to watch the ceremony rehearsal, where the team provided a detailed media guide and support for the journalists. The early access ensured that comprehensive stories and dynamic features were published after the ceremony, accurately and effectively.
Digital Communication
Rouya collaborated with Tentwenty Digital Agency to transform the EidAlEtihad.ae website into a comprehensive national digital hub. Key features included celebration guides for individuals, schools, and workplaces, a dynamic “What’s On” calendar, and live-streaming access and broadcast listings.
The site served over 500,000 users in the two weeks around the ceremony and was critical in enabling inclusive participation.
Show Guide
Rouya closely studied the scripts and renditions to create a concise yet poetic show guide featuring key moments and interesting facts about the official ceremony and the UAE’s history. The guide was sustainably printed and shared with the esteemed guests of the show.
Anchoring the Strategy in Identity
Rouya’s strategy for the 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebration was deeply rooted in promoting the UAE’s identity while embracing modernity. By curating content that highlighted the UAE’s natural beauty, such as the stunning landscapes of Jebel Hafeet Park, Rouya celebrated the nation’s heritage while showcasing its progress. Sustainability was woven into every aspect of the event, from script storytelling to educational guides for schools, workplaces, and families, fostering environmental responsibility.
Additionally, Rouya ensured that the message of unity reached everyone in the UAE by emphasising inclusivity across all communication channels. This aligned with the UAE’s gratitude to all who call the UAE home for their contributions to the nation.
